New adventure 2023

Well since the end of the season my task was to find a small cruiser.

my dream was a corribee 21 , i almost bought a fin keel and berth it at Aberystwyth but i was advised a fin wasnt ideal.

in Aber there is a twin bilge which was ideal but couldnt find the owner, then i was given a look at a boat in Aberaeron which was tbh a wreck.

then i heard of a sabre 27 for sale at New Quay but missed out on it and it was too expensive. also considered a hawk20 in neyland but was sold

a jag 21 at Burry Port but put off by silting harbour.

then considered a Colvic sea worker at Swansea but was a bit over budget

another colvic at Neyland but sold.

then after watching Sailing Kate Lousie i decided a dinghy cruiser was the way forward  Paul had a Stornaway 18, but you cant get them in the UK only AUS.

Then on youtube i followed sailing with dave who also sails at Bala  https://www.youtube.com/@SailingWithDave/videos, watching his exploits inspired me to pursue a Drascombe Longboat which is 21ft compared to his 18ft

after considering ones in Basingstoke (didnt like the hatch doors and too heavy)

Norley too expensive for my budget , (on an unbraked trailer also 10hp engine  too heavy) others considered were from Honour Marine in Swanage, (used to sail there for 15 years) they were either sold or over budget.

then i was contacted by someone in Stranrear (where is that ???)

i looked it up  , oh my a 7 hr drive  no way

the guy sent me the photos and guess what

I am going up in April to buy it

the plan is to sail it at Bala upgrade it then sail it on the sea as well

watch this space for the next instalment
